There are some things that you just have to see and do in Amsterdam. A lot of people don’t know that there are actually three red light districts in Amsterdam. Most people only know about the most popular one De Wallen; however, there are two more that offer some different aspects and adventure.

If your intentions are more than window shopping and naughty in nature? You should absolutely visit the main red light district, but you should also consider a stroll over to the other two. The prices are more affordable and believe it or not, tourist crime rates are lower. Here are the three red light districts in Amsterdam in order of popularity.

1.De Wallen: The most famous and oldest red light district with 294 windows.
2.Singelgebied: Sits along the Singel canal and has beautiful architectural buildings with 64 windows.
3.De Pijp: Offers a unique experience and is the smallest red light district with 45 windows.

When’s the Best Time to Go?

The best time to head out to one of the red light districts in Amsterdam is around 11 pm. This is when the districts start to come to life with roving characters and canals are illuminated with red neon lights. This is a time that most of the windows will be occupied by escorts and working girls.

The windows are booked by the workers in eight-hour increments, and it usually takes two customers to pay for the window before the worker starts to profit. The overnight eight-hour block is the best time to go because the hottest girls work under the red lights.

How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off

Avoiding a tourist scam is just part of traveling outside of your realm, and Amsterdam, just like any other large city, has people who take advantage of tourist. When you’re walking through one of the red light districts, don’t flash money around, don’t dress like money, and go with a friend. There are a few things you should either avoid or use caution with: beggars, taxis, prostitutes, and junkies.

In the end, Amsterdam can be a safe place for tourists. The best advice is to use common sense or a reviewed escort agency for safe and discreet sex. Use your better judgment, if something doesn’t look or feel right, it probably isn’t, and you should remove yourself from the situation before it escalates.
